Instructions for burning candles with Wooden Wicks

  • The best way to light wooden wick is to tilt the candle on an angle and let the flame draw across the length of the wick.

  • Give your candle sufficient burning time to develop a melted wax pool that goes to the edge of the candle vessel to establish “tax memory” on first use. This can take several hours.

  • Keep your wood wick trimmed to about 0.5mm after each use, and clean off any burnt wood from pervious use. If the wood is not trimmed short and clean, the wax can’t make it to the flame and your candle won’t stay lit.

  • A candle with sufficient time to form a full melted pool of wax may start to form depression or “tunnels” around the wick. This will eventually become too deep for fresh oxygen to flow in, and your candle will have trouble staying lit.

  • Place on a protected, heat-resistant, dry surface, away from anything that can catch fire, and out of reach of children and pets. Use holders designed for the particular candle style.

  • Avoid burning candles near windows or air vents.  The draft will cause the candle the burn unevenly.

  • Never leave candles burning unattended as a candle can light on fire due to a draft, it being knocked over, or by any other accident.

  • The candle should be completely cooled between uses.

  • The candle should be burned on a safe surface (avoid countertops in kitchen or bathroom).

    Tips for Smudging

  1. Hold sacredness and respect when connecting with the plant people who help you in this ceremony and when you pray.

  2. Remember and honor your ancestors with good deeds.

  3. Honor the divine by caring for what the Great Spirit has created.

  4. See the divine Mother in everything. Women are the embodiment of Great Spirit’s creation on Earth, thru the gift of birth, so women are holy. We are all from the same womb.

  5. Everything is related to everything; nothing is random.

  6. Caring for creation is everyone’s responsibility.

  7. This will is not religion; this is love.

Clearing Your Body

Smudging is not only for spaces; it’s also for clearing your body, mind, and spirit of any negativity, stagnation, or energetic disturbances within or surrounding you. As part of the ritual, make sure to invite the sacred smoke around your body from head to toe and front to back to help set your intentions before smudging your space.

A Smudging Prayer

May your hands be cleansed, that they create beautiful things.

May your feet be cleansed, that they might take you where you most need to be.

May your heart be cleansed, that you might hear its messages clearly.

May your throat be cleansed, that you might speak rightly when words are needed.

May your eyes be cleansed, that you might see the signs and wonders of the world.

May this person and space be washed clean by the smoke of these fragrant plants.

And may that same smoke carry our prayers, spiraling, to the heavens.
